Open Positions

There are regularly opportunities for researchers to join our group. Currently, we are specifically looking for people with a special interest in glycobiology. Applicants should be exceptionally motivated to work on challenging, cutting-edge research projects in a stimulating, international team.

Postdoc applicants: Experience in structural biology or with membrane proteins is definitely an advantage, but not absolutely required. Expertise in mammalian or insect cell cultures and/or yeast expression is also a plus, as is experience with proteoliposomes and liposome-based assays. Available projects range from determining new structures of membrane proteins using cryo-EM to studying the structure-function relationship using various biochemical and biophysical techniques. For applications and inquiries please contact me by Email (all correspondence in English please) and attach your CV and a brief (half page) description of your research interests.

PhD or M.Sc. student applicants: Students will have the opportunity to learn state-of-the-art techniques including: Recombinant DNA techniques; Overexpression and purification of membrane proteins; Functional reconstitution of membrane proteins in proteoliposomes and liposome-based activity assays; High-resolution structure determination using single-particle cry-electron microscopy; Biophysical characterization of proteins.

PhD student applicants: You are encouraged to apply via the Biomolecular Structure and Mechanism section of the Life Science Zurich Graduate School (external pageLSZGS). If this is not an option, you may apply directly by Email (all correspondence in English please). When applying directly, please outline your previous research (M. Sc. or diploma thesis), explain why applying through the LSZGS is not possible, and write a paragraph describing your research interests. Experience with membrane proteins is a plus but not essential.

ETH M.Sc. students: When applying for research projects or M.Sc. thesis positions, please attach your CV including grades from previous exams. Also, please state in the application what other projects you have already scheduled / performed.
